Breakwater Beach is found on the opposite side of Smeaton’s Pier to the Harbour Beach. It disappears at hide tide, but when the tide goes out there is a lovely, often very quiet stretch of beach. It is the perfect, quiet spot for dog walking at low tide.
Walk along past the harbour to Smeaton’s Pier. Go down the ramp by the side of the toilets and turn right.
There is no direct bus access. The buses in St Ives drop off either at the bus station, Royal Square, or on the road behind Porthmeor Beach.
The nearest car park is Smeaton’s Pier.
It is a bit of a jumble and a scramble down the the beach. You can’t really take prams or wheelchairs.
Toilets. There are toilets on Smeaton’s Pier
Car Park. You can park on Smeaton’s Pier. If this is full up there is a bigger car park on The Island.
Food & Drink. There is a huge array of cafes, restaurants, takeaways and shops all within a 5 minute walk of the beach. During the season there is a lovely cafe on the corner selling DELICIOUS Italian coffee. There is also usually a Kelly’s icecream stand.
There is NO LIFEGUARD at this beach.
This beach is DOG FRIENDLY ALL YEAR ROUND!
