16 Fabulous Swimming Pools In West Cornwall

OKay, we all know you can swim in the sea. But not all of us are either that brave, that strong or that hardy against the cold!

We do have some lovely swimming pools down here in St Ives and across the region.

1 ST IVES LEISURE CENTRE

St Ives Leisure Centre has 2 swimming pools. The big one is 25m long and usually about 29 degrees. It has lane swimming and various aqua sports during the day plus school lessons during term time. The small pool is very shallow (adults have to crouch!) and is warmer at 31 degrees. It has a slide and water toys.

Child Swim: £4.00 (under 4’s go free)

2 THE GARRACK HOTEL SWIMMING POOL

The Garrack Hotel has a separate cafe and terrace with a small swimming pool (9.4m length). It has a water jet to provide resistance to make your laps last longer. It also has a bubble pool which my kids love! The pool is usually very warm which makes it great for little kids.

You can use the swimming pool at The Garrack hotel if you are not staying there. You do need membership though which costs £48 for the year. The member can bring guests along.

Adult Swim: £2.50 member, £3.50 guest
Child Swim: £3.50 as a guest
Parking: There is hotel parking, but it isn’t vast!

3 ST IVES HARBOUR HOTEL SWIMMING POOL

St Ives Harbour Hotel has a lovely swimming pool in its “Harspa”. You can get day membership to all the facilites for £15 for 3 hours or £20 on a Saturday. Or you can join as a member. The cheapest membership which gets you access to the swimming pool plus all the Harspa facilities is £29 a month.

Children (15 and under) can come along with members for £5.00 but only a certain times ( 9.30am – 10.30am and 3.30pm – 5.00pm, 7 days a week).

4 TREGENNA CASTLE SWIMMING POOL

Tregenna Castle has 2 swimming pools. An indoor one which is quite small and heated to 29 degrees, and an outdoor one heated to 26 degrees. The outdoor one is only open May to September.

Non hotel residents can use the swimming pools out of school holidays (Cornwall council term dates apply).

Child Swim: £4.50 (under 2’s go free)

5 CARBIS BAY HOTEL SWIMMING POOL

Carbis Bay Hotel has a lovely outdoor swimming pool. If you are using the CSPA you can use the pool. Otherwise it is just for hotel guests.

6 UNA ST IVES SWIMMING POOL

Una Spa St Ives is a gorgeous holiday resort/spa/restaurant behind Carbis Bay down Laity Lane. The pool is nice and big and non-residents can pay to use it. You can pay £20 for a full day pass or you can get membership at a whopping £640 for the year! This gives you full access to all the leisure facilities. Don’t get me wrong, Una is a beautiful place and I wish I could afford membership. It must be done to limit numbers as I know lots of people who would go if it were cheaper!

Una do often have special offers on where you can get a treatment or a meal with a free swim thrown in. This works out at good value for money.

7 HAYLE OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOL

My Mum and Dad live in Hayle and they LOVE the outdoor swimming pool. It is only open May to September and is really popular with locals during the school holidays. It is solar heated an gets to between 22 and 25 degrees, so not the warmest!

If you are a Hayle resident you can get a free pass that lets you swim for free on a Tuesday.  You can also get season tickets for £40 for adults and £30 for children.

8 PENZANCE LEISURE CENTRE SWIMMING POOL

Penzance Leisure Centre has a 25m swimming pool and a learner pool. On a Saturday and during the holidays they do a floats fun session for confident kids.

9 WHEAL RODNEY SWIMMING POOL

Wheal Rodney is a holiday park near Marazion. The swimming pool is a small, private one that is usually lovely and warm. Non-residents can use the swimming pool – no membership is needed.

10 KENEGIE MANOR SWIMMING POOL

Kenegie Manor is a holiday park between St Ives and Penzance near Gulval. The swimming pool is open to non-residents but it does close from November to February.

11 JUBILEE OPEN AIR SWIMMING POOL

The Jubilee Open Air Swimming Pool is the jewel in the crown for Penzance. It is an art deco lido that has been refurbished to a beautiful standard. Currently it closed for Winter, but in Spring 2019 it will be opened all year round (they are getting heating!).

Parking: There is parking on the prom, or in one of the local council car parks.

12 GWEL AN MOR SWIMMING POOL

Gwel an Mor has an indoor swimming pool that opens to non-residents. They do ask that you ring before you turn up just in case they are too busy. You don’t need membership to use the pool.

13 CARN BREA LEISURE CENTRE SWIMMING POOL

Carn Brea is a huge, recently refurbished leisure centre just outside Redruth. It has a very good, large swimming pool and a learner pool.

14 SHIPS & CASTLES SWIMMING POOL

Ships & Castles deserves a mention as it has lots of fun facilities in their swimming pool. Their large, nautical themed swimming pool is filled with fun features such as a flume, wave machine, and a River Run. Definitely worth the trip!

15 OASIS HENDRA SWIMMING POOL

Oasis Hendra is a really fun swimming pool that non-residents can use. It is a 30m pool with 3 flumes, a river rapid ride, fountains & waterfall, a giant tap and a toddler area with slide. The swimming pool closes over Winter and re-opens at the end of March.

Child Swim: Under 16’s £6.95, 3-4 £3.95 and under 2’s go free

16 WATERWORLD LEISURE CENTRE

Waterworld Leisure Centre in Newquay has good swimming pool facilities. They have a large, tropical themed leisure pool, filled with fun features such as flumes, slides and a giant floating snake for children and adults to enjoy. They also have a second 25m swimming pool for those who wish to participate in a more leisurely swim!

Child Swim: £5.50 (under 4’s go free)
Parking: No – the nearest is Trenance Car Park which is free during the Winter months but is quite expensive in season!
