Porthminster Beach - Is This Really In The UK?

Porthminster Beach is a simply stunning beach, often looking Mediterranean even in Winter. It sits underneath the hillside in front of St Ives train station, and it is often the first glimpse visitors get when arriving in St Ives.

It is a large sandy beach and is usually very sheltered, making it a fabulous place for young children to play.

The sea is often very calm and shallow, perfect for paddling, swimming and launching paddleboards (SUPs) and kayaks.

Getting To Porthminster Beach

From St Ives Harbour, walk along Lambeth Walk (following the sea). Go past the viewing benches outside the St Ives Arts Club and up The Warren. Keep going past Pedn Olva and you will see Porthminster Beach spread out before you (stunning isn't it!).

St Ives train station sits just about Porthminster Beach. You can get the train from St Erth, Lelant and Carbis Bay.

The St Ives bus station is at the top of the steps by Pedn Olva. Buses come in from various places and you can catch them back out from here too.

You can park your car at St Ives Train Station - a decent sized car park.

Access On To Porthminster Beach

You get down to Porthminster Beach by a steep slope. This is great for prams and wheelchairs. Take care however, as it is fairly steep!
