It may sound like a big claim, but I think the train ride from St Erth to St Ives is hard to beat for its outstanding views! The train hugs the coast round the estuary around Lelant and Porthkidney Sands. It then turns towards Carbis Bay, along the cliffs and through to St Ives and Porthminster Beach. It is simply breathtaking!
An adult return costs £4.00 (cheaper with a rail card) or £3.00 one way. Children 5-15 cost £2 for a return, or £1.50. Children under 5 go free. Dogs are allowed on the train.
At the time of writing, there are around 2 trains per hour between St Ives and St Erth. The first train to St Ives from St Erth leaves at just after 7am and the last train from St Ives back to St Erth leaves at 22:31. Check the trainline.com for more up to date info.
If you are wanting to use the park and ride, go to Lelant Saltings, rather than St Erth. To get there you need to turn right (if you are coming from the A30) at the roundabout just after the Wyevale Garden Centre. Turn the first left through the Lelant Saltings housing estate and follow the signs to the park and ride. The cost to park here all day is £2.80 and you need to also purchase a train ticket.
