The Boathouse Theatre in St Ives is extraordinarily quirky. It is a teeny tiny theatre behind the harbour on Carnglaze Place. It is in a grade 2 listed building that used to be a pilchard cellar. It only seats 30 people and is really special.
The theatre was opened in 2012 and is run by Jason Calder and his family.
During the school holidays they put on the most weird and wacky puppet shows for the children. These are usually in the afternoons and last about 50 minutes. As an adult they seem a little peculiar, but honestly, the kids fall about themselves laughing!
In the evening and weekends they put on brilliant whodunnits and plays for the grown ups. The write up in the paper "50 minutes of ecstatic madness" pretty much sums up The Boathouse Theatre productions!
Walk along the harbour, past The Sloop Inn towards Smeaton's Pier. Walk past Cafe Pasta and just before the Art Space Gallery turn left into Carnglaze Place.
