St Ives Biathlon Cornwall

The St Ives Biathlon: A Cornish Coastline Classic

If you’re looking for an event that captures the heart of Cornish community spirit, with a splash of sweat, sand, and cheering crowds, the St Ives Biathlon is your go-to.

Think a seaside run-and-swim, amazing views, and that unbeatable buzz of cheering voices all blended into one unforgettable day.

What’s the St Ives Biathlon All About?

This classic event is a mix of a coastal run and an open-water swim, taking place right in the stunning backdrop of St Ives Bay.

The main race starts from the harbour slipway, winds along the coast to Carbis Bay Beach (about a 2 km run), then runners dive in for a 2 km swim back to the harbour

There are all sorts of categories to suit different abilities, from Open (17–39), Veterans (40–49), Super Vets (50–59), to the newest Senior Vets (60+), plus novice and junior races that use shorter loops to Porthminster Beach and back.

When & Where

Date: This year (2025) the St Ives Biathlon took place on Saturday, 28 June.

Organiser: It’s run by the St Ives Surf Life Saving Club.

Community Vibe & Perks

It’s not just a race, it’s a full-blown celebration. Expect cheering crowds lining the coast, music, and high spirits.

Trophies are up for grabs, plus everyone in the main event gets a pasty and a pint, a beloved tradition thanks to The Sloop Inn and the Cornish Bakehouse

Finishers also walk away with medals, while top athletes score some sweet prizes. All proceeds support training the next generation of lifesavers in St Ives

Who’s Taking Part?

The 2025 biathlon drew over 250 competitors, including seasoned athletes, newbies, and seasoned over-60s, many travelling from places like London, Southampton, and Coventry to join in. It really shows how beloved this Cornish event is beyond the borders of town.

Why It’s Worth Being There

Whether you’re racing or just soaking up the atmosphere, the St Ives Biathlon is a slice of local Cornish life at its finest. Beautiful scenery, competitive spirit, and a community rallying together, it’s everything that makes Cornwall shine all rolled into one epic evening.
