This was a really hard post for me to write because as soon as I started putting it together I felt really hungry! There is nothing so amazing in flavour to me than a traditional Sunday roast dinner with all the trimmings and lashings of gravy.
Here are some of the best Sunday lunches in and around St Ives that I know about. Where possible I've added a photo of the lunch you can expect to get, and I've also added in prices. It is just to give you an idea of what you can expect, and to whet your appetite. Happy eating!
1. The Western
LOCATION MAP: Gabriel St, Saint Ives TR26 2LU
The Western does a carvery on a Sunday between 12pm and 2pm and 5:30pm - 8pm. This is one that so many people recommend, but they don't have much information online about it. I will have to pop in one Sunday and ask them for all the details. I'l guessing the portions are decent and the prices are good!
2. The Sloop Inn
LOCATION MAP: The Wharf St Ives, Saint Ives TR26 1LP
The Sloop Inn serves Sunday roasts with roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, veg and gravy for £14.95. Lots of people really rave about them and they certainly do look tasty, especially washed down by a pint of Doombar!
3. The Lifeboat Inn
LOCATION MAP: Wharf Rd, Saint Ives TR26 1LF
The Lifeboat Inn does a traditional Sunday lunch, but they have also added a new burrito Sunday lunch, which does sound interesting! The burrito style Sunday lunch prices are between £10-12 for the main and then the sides are extra.
4. Pedn Olva Hotel
LOCATION MAP: 27 Warren, Saint Ives TR26 2EA
Choose from roast beef or chicken and 2 veggie options. Served with yorkshire puddings, parsnips, seasonal veg, cauliflower cheese and gravy. £17.00 for the meat option and £15.00 for the vegetarian.
5. The Cornish Arms
LOCATION MAP: St Ives Rd, Carbis Bay, Saint Ives TR26 2PG
The Cornish Arms does a really good Sunday lunch with a choice of beef, turkey, pork or nut roast. Served with homemade yorkshire pudding, double roasted Cornish potatoes, honey glazed roast parsnips and carrots and savoy cabbage. All for £14.50 for adults and £8.50 for children.
6. The Loft
LOCATION MAP: Norway Lane, Saint Ives TR26 1LZ
Sunday lunch is served up in The Loft between 12pm and 3pm. You get a choice of beef, pork loin, chicken or veggie wellington served with honey glazed root veg, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings. Adults £16.95 and children £9.00.
7. Porthminster Kitchen
LOCATION MAP: Wharf Rd, Saint Ives TR26 1LG
Porthminster Kitchen do a very hearty Sunday lunch with all the trimmings and gravy. When I find out the price I will add it here.
8. Bucket Of Blood
LOCATION MAP: 14 Churchtown Rd, Phillack, Hayle TR27 5AE
I've eaten several Sunday lunches at the Bucket Of Blood as it is a favourite of my parents who live in Hayle. I've not taken a note of the price (but as my Dad is from Yorkshire it won't be too much!) but the portion sizes are MASSIVE! The pub itself is a lovely, cozy one, but mind your head if you are tall!
This is a super popular pub for Sunday lunch so I'd recommend booking ahead.
9. Trevaskis Farm
LOCATION MAP: Gwinear Rd, Connor Downs, Hayle TR27 5JQ
Choose from chicken, beef, lamb, pork anbd 4 different veggie options. Served with seasonal veg, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, gravy and condiments. Large portion £14.95, small portion £13.95, child portion £9.95.
And I haven't even begun to tell you about the desserts!
10. Tregenna Castle
LOCATION MAP: Trelyon Ave, Carbis Bay, Saint Ives TR26 2DE
Sunday lunch is served up at Tregenna Castle every Sunday from 12noon till 8pm. 3 courses £24.95, 2 courses £19.95 amd 1 course £14.95. Children under 12 are half price.
11. The Badger Inn
LOCATION MAP: Fore St, Lelant, Saint Ives TR26 3JT
Sunday carvery is served from 12pm till 6pm on Sundays. I've not found out the prices as I haven't been here for a while - I will update asap.
12. The Old Quay House
LOCATION MAP: Griggs Quay, Hayle TR27 6JG
The Old Quay House does a really good Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Large adult portion £14.95, small adult portion £12.95 and child £9.50.
We love having a Sunday lunch here, not only because it is good food, but the kids can play in the fantastic play area outside.
13. The Stable Bar at Polmanter
LOCATION MAP: Polmanter Farm, Halsetown, Saint Ives TR26 3LX
The Stable Bar at Polmanter is a fab place to go for a Sunday roast with the family. They don't open all year - I believe it is from March till December as the site takes a break in Jan and Feb.
Their roasts are £14.95 for adults and £8.95 for children. What we especially like is that there is soft play, indoor games and an outdoor play area to keep the children happy!
