Tanglewood Garden Penzance Cornwall

A Stroll Through Tanglewood Garden

Hidden away just outside Penzance, Tanglewood Garden is one of those places that feels quietly welcoming as soon as you step along the path down through the woods.

It’s not manicured or formal. Instead, it’s more like wandering through a series of secret spots linked by winding paths, ponds, and wildlife.

The garden was started and is still looked after by a local couple. There’s a real sense that it’s grown alongside them rather than being forced into shape. There are trees bending over small ponds, wildflowers edging the trails, and plenty of tucked-away benches if you want to stop and listen to the birds.

Our children love it here too. There are stepping stones across ponds, rustic bridges and little sculptures hidden among the undergrowth.

You won’t find a café or shop on site so it’s best to pack a flask and a snack if you’d like to linger.

Dogs are welcome on leads, and there’s a small honesty box for the entrance fee so bring some cash.

There’s parking, though it’s not huge, at the top by the road. Parts of the garden can get muddy, so good shoes help.

Tanglewood isn’t about big crowds or formal tours. It’s more a gentle reminder of what a garden can be when nature is given a say in the design. If you’re in the Penzance area and fancy a quiet wander somewhere a bit different, it’s worth an hour or two of your time.

Some Practical Bits

The gardens open from the start of the Easter holidays until 30th September. Opening times are 10am till 5:30pm and they are CLOSED every Wednesday.

The postcode for your satnav is TR20 8PL. I don't think there is any public transport which stops nearby, so you will need to drive, bike or hike there.

At the time of writing this, Adults are £6, children £3 and under 5s are free. You can also get a yearly membership.

Dogs are welcome on leads.

Unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs as the path access is a bit steep!

Please keep a close eye on children as there are lots of deep water ponds.

There are refreshments available at The Cake Hut which is open on Saturday and Sunday, from 10.00 am until 3.30pm. You can bring your own picnics or disposable barbecues. Please take all your rubbish home with you.

There is a compost toilet on site.
